PEOPLE IN CRISIS INC.(PICI) OUTREACH STORY: FOR MS REYNOLDS

Ms Reynolds and her son resided in Somers Point, NJ. She had Stage 4 COPD, and she required an oxygen tank to breathe. When Ms. Reynolds was about to be evicted because of her inability to afford to pay back rent, PICI successfully negotiated a payment plan with their landlord to help alleviate financial stress for them When Ms Reynolds missed a payment and she and her son were about to be evicted again, Aaron Snyder, co-president of PICI while having final exams at college, he still took the time to find a donor who was able to pay $3,900 in current and back rent. Ms. Reynolds was losing hope from not having enough money for back rent and that is why she then threatened to stop her oxygen had she been evicted. When Aaron heard her state that he moved quickly to try to raise what was needed no matter how busy he was with his final exams Therefore we were so grateful for Aaron Snyder’s assistance that saved her Life. In addition, Ms Reynolds was too weak to navigate through the system to set up a payment plan for her electric that was past due therefore the PICI team successfully negotiated with her utility provider, Atlantic City Electric, to form a new payment plan, so that she would not receive anymore threats from any Atlantic City Electric representative since a prior representative threatened her by stating that, even though he knew she was on oxygen, he said the electric bill had to be paid in full within two weeks or it would be shut off. Lana Samuels witnessed the call. As advocates for PICI Aaron and Lana investigated further whether it was legal for the electric company to shut off her electric while she was on oxygen since she had a past due balance. Aaron spoke with the supervisor and she said that the representative should never have said that because legally they could not turn off her electric because she was on oxygen.
Even though a payment was worked outt the PICI team still wanted to help alleviate financial stress that severel affected her pulmunary issues so we contacted several churches to request a donation for her past due electric bill and a local church donated in Ocean City donated her past due balance and she and people in crisis Inc were so grateful for the church’s assistance.
Dr Weibel also helped to save her Life when Ms Reynolds became severely depressed when she was not approved for a procedure that would have extended her Life. For months she worked so hard by going to physical therapy etc and testing to prepare for the procedure She was so depressed from not being approved for the procedure that she stated to Lana that she was losing hope to want to live. She stated to Lana and to Aaron that the only person she wanted to talk with who may help her thru her depression who may give her hope to want to live was her pulmunary doctor, Dr. Weibel who is a doctor at Jefferson Hospital in Phila and who is co president of PICI. Lana took her pleas for help seriously so she Lana moved quickly by asap by contacting Dr. Weibel. Lana quickly found transportation to travel with Ms Reynolds to meet Dr Weibel where she was working that day in intensive care at Methodist and during her breaks Dr Weibel spent a long time. going above and beyond to give her emotional support. She even offered to also spend time with Ms Reynolds after work however Ms Reynolds stated from Dr Weibel’s compassionate outreach she regained her will to want to live. Dr Weibel suggested that Ms Reynolds only if she chose to contact Dr Weibel or the PICI team or anyone else from her choice to give her follow up support. Therefore our PICI team strongly believes that ,Dr. Weibel ,helped to saved her life.and Lana helped to sustain her Life by moving quickly to connect her with Dr Weibel wirh the hope that Ms Reynolds would not lose her will to want to Live. The PICI team thanks Dr Weibel. For saving her Life.
