PICI Outreach Story: “Thomas”

Above all else, the story of Thomas is the reason why PICI exists today. PICI Founder and Co-President Lana Samuels frequently refers to Thomas as “The man who saved my life.” You can read more about Thomas through clicking on our homepage. Thomas currently resides in Yuma, AZ, and often faces severe difficulty in affording the cost of groceries daily and rent each month, and has specific and medical needs due to his many allergies.

PICI has successfully advocated for Thomas on numerous occasions, such as helping him apply for Social Security and providing him with rental and grocery assistance. Thomas’s support of Lana inspired her to go door-to-door asking for donations to assist him and others living in severe crisis. Most recently, PICI has assisted Thomas in getting relocation assistance. When Thomas’s former landlord in Seattle, WA, failed to provide him with his legal right to assistance after the landlord planned to demolish his property to make room for a new development project, PICI succeeded in finding attorneys who would fight for his rights, which ultimately awarded Thomas with a settlement.

Because Thomas is still in severe crisis, Lana continuously relies goes door-to-door trying to raise funds to support him. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic she is unable to raise these funds, so please donate to our end-of-the-year holiday fundraising campaign to support Thomas and others in severe medical and living crises.
